The Politics of the Belly
So Kibaki has decided to reject the pay rise? Me thinks not. That's how the papers have put it. Quite the contrary it is obvious that he has merely capitulated to public pressure-both national and international. Just watched Al-Jazeera and they made the most of it. Government spokespeson has his plate really full. The Najivunia kuwa mkenya vanity won't just wash. Had Kibaki been honest, he should have made his reasons known immediately his fellow hyenas made their intentions known. It's amazing that this parliament seems to agree on little but their payrise. It appears that if one were to examine the 'politics of the belly' as Patrick Chabal has so beautifuly described it, Kenya provides the best example there is in Africa. We have perfected the politics of primitive consumpation that Kibaki's alleged rejection of a pay rise sounds laughable.
